About Me

Hello, my name is Javier Murillo, and cooking is truly my passion and every time I can I’m in a kitchen, or grilling something. I find it therapeutic and keeps me sane in the midst of the stress of life.

I am not a classically trained chef. However, I am the son of one, and I’ve been helping her in the kitchen since I was a small child and could safely reach the stove or handle a knife. She taught me cooking techniques, and countless of her recipes as well. Because of my father’s job we had to move countries frequently, and they had a very active social life. Even though my family is from Venezuela, I was born in Yugoslavia, and lived in Algeria, Italy, and South Korea before even hitting adulthood.

This means that I was exposed to many different types of cuisine from an early age. To me comfort food not only means having a Venezuelan Arepa, or Pabellón Criollo. One of my earliest food memories is eating Couscous with Lamb, others include Pasta Carbonara, and Kimchi Chigae. These are some of the foods I grew up with and love eating.

My epiphany came one day while at an office outing where we had to introduce ourselves. One of the questions that we had to answer was: if you were not in consulting, and could pursue your passion what would you be doing? I answered, I’d be trying to make a living out of food and travel.

Then I thought, if cooking, trying new types of food, and traveling are my passions why not do something about it?  Why not start a blog?

Cooking and sharing my food is a passion. I find it fun and therapeutic, it helps me manage stress and keep myself sane. I do this as a hobby as I want to share some of my recipes and share my passion with the world. I want people to feel happy when they cook, and share their meals with their loved ones. That is why I have called this blog Javier Happy Eats.

I currently live in South Florida.  I am a husband, father, and have a full time day job. I don’t cook for a living, this is my hobby that also helps me bond with my family and friends when we have free time.

A BIT ABOUT MY FOOD PHILOSOPHY:

Even though cooking is my passion, I hate to do it for myself. I’d rather starve instead of eating alone or cooking just for myself. I love to cook and share my meals with others. The food philosophy is food to share with the people who truly matter to you.

Because of my multicultural upbringing I have become a bit of an international foodie, being Venezuelan, but having lived in Europe, North Africa, Asia and the United States, I love trying new types of food. I also think it is important to share such cultural diversity. Why should we always eat the same type of food if there are so many delicious dishes all over the world that we can try and truly enjoy?

I want to bring a bit of myself in this blog, and help my readers think outside of the box when they have people over and try something different and delicious. Portions are going to be large, food is going to be varied and sometimes with some touch of fusion. Some dishes will be quick and easy, others will take hours or even days and will require some planning.I just hope that you enjoy eating and trying my recipes as much as I enjoy sharing them with the world.

Welcome to Javier Happy Eats!
