We love french fries, and I think they are the perfect combination for any hamburger. This time we’re going to give it a bit of a twist as we embark on a Mediterranean journey and we air fry our Potatoes with Zaatar. Inspired by Middle Eastern culinary traditions, this side dish is the perfect pairing for our Greek-Style Lamb Burger that promises to transport your taste buds to the sun-kissed lands of the Mediterranean.
Zaatar, has a mix of earthy, tangy, and herbal flavors, that add a Middle Eastern twist to these potatoes. Its versatility makes it a staple spice blend in Mediterranean-inspired cuisine. You can use Zaatar on various dishes like eggs, yogurt, pita bread, lamb, chicken, beef, and more.
Zaatar spice mixes can vary depending on personal preferences and regional variations. The most common ingredients include dried oregano, thyme, toasted sesame seeds, and sumac. Some variations may also include marjoram or other herbs. You can find Zaatar at specialty grocery stores such as Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, or your local Middle Eastern market. I procure mine at Jerusalem Market in Plantation, Fl.
Get ready to savor the wonderful combination of crispy potatoes with Zaatar, I am sure you will not regret it. This dish is sure to become a favorite in your culinary repertoire. Enjoy!

Ingredients
8 8 Medium-sized potatoes
1 tbsp 1 tbsp Zaatar spice mix
1 1 lemon (juice)
1 tbsp 1 tbsp olive oil
Salt and pepper to taste
Directions
- Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
- Wash the potatoes thoroughly and cut them into slightly larger pieces, similar to roasted potatoes.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the potatoes, Zaatar spice mix, lemon juice, olive oil, and a pinch of salt. Toss the potatoes gently to ensure they are evenly coated with the seasoning.
- Place the seasoned potatoes in the preheated air fryer basket. Make sure they are spread out in a single layer to allow even cooking. If necessary, cook them in batches to avoid overcrowding.
- Cook the potatoes in the air fryer for about 20 minutes. After the first 10 minutes, carefully remove the basket and give it a gentle shake or use tongs to move the potatoes around. This will help ensure they cook evenly on all sides.
- Once the potatoes are golden brown and crispy, remove them from the air fryer and let them cool for a few minutes.
- Serve the potatoes with a sprinkle of additional Zaatar spice mix, if desired, and enjoy them as a flavorful side dish or snack.
Notes
- The potatoes with zaatar make the perfect pairing for our Greek-Style Lamb Burgers.
