Creamy Yogurt and Chipotle Sauce

Yogurt and Chipotle Sauce

4.5 from 4 votes

This creamy chipotle sauce is made with dried chipotles. You have to soak them in water before you can use them. I also use plain Greek yogurt, garlic, and lime juice. In reality, Chipotles are smoked dried Jalapeño peppers. You can use canned chipotles in adobo for this recipe, but the flavor profile will be a bit different as they include tomato paste and other ingredients. I favor Yogurt based sauces as I’m not a fan of mayonnaise or any mayo based sauces. I think mayo has a place in certain dishes but its usage in my kitchen is usually very limited. This is one of my favorite “spicy mayo” type saice that goes very well with seafood based tacos.

Ingredients

  • 4 4 Chipotle chiles or 1 small can of chipotles in adobo

  • 2 cup 2 Plain Greek yogurt

  • 4 4 Garlic cloves

  • 1 1 Juice of 1 lime

  • Salt and Pepper to taste

Directions

  • Soak the dehydrated chipotle chiles in water for 10 minutes. Don't throw the water away as you may need it if the sauce is too creamy for your liking.
  • Combine all the ingredients in a blender or mini-food processor. Mix until the sauce is smooth and creamy. Taste and adjust the spice, and salt level based on your preference.
